Lance and Caroline are a beautiful couple, full of intentionality, thoughtfulness, and love. They wanted a relaxing wedding day schedule, time with family, and focus on the natural beauty around them. I couldn’t have imagined a better place than Greencrest Manor. Greencrest Manor, located in Battle Creek, MI is an intimate European-styled wedding estate tucked back into the countryside offering an elegant destination for your celebrations and retreat.
The weekend started with a tuscan, family style, rehearsal dinner held on the East Veranda. This was a beautiful evening of preparation, celebration, and beautiful cocktails. There was a table full of gifts from Lance and Caroline to individuals who have helped make everything about this weekend possible. The evening moved at a conversational pace and offered time between evening toasts and dessert for portraits around the Manor.
The sun was shining, the bees were flitting around the gardens, and the girls were all finishing up their hair and makeup when I arrived. On the table in the center of the room was a book full of letters — from Carolines family, her closest friends, and Lance. Pages and pages of words written just for her, collected together for this morning. The book was so full of love it literally would not close. It just kept spilling open. It was such a lovely testament to the kind of woman Caroline is and the kind of life she and Lance are building together.

I tucked myself away in the quiet of the bridal suite of Greencrest Manor where I was able to photograph details. Greencrest had all the details and paper suite extras set aside with floral snips which add so much to a flat lay. Jenn, the owner of Greencrest Manor, is one of those rare people who pours herself into her work in ways that go far beyond what anyone would expect. She is a hospitality expert and a pillar in this wedding industry to take notes from. In every aspect, she has created an environment of vendor support and encouragement.

Lance waited for Caroline, shaded under this beautiful big tree. Their first look was so lovely and emotional, Caroline’s gown flowed effortlessly behind her as she walked to tap him on the shoulder. I’m such a big advocate for a first look. Not just because it makes a pretty schedule but because then you get to spend the entire day with your love. You get all the nervous energy out of the way and start making memories.
During the bridal portraits that followed their first look, a bee landed on Caroline’s bouquet to pollinate. It just settled right in among the petals, entirely unbothered, going about its quiet and purposeful work. And for a moment, the four of us — Caroline, Lance, Sam (with SJK Productions), and I — just watched it. There was something so gentle and so right about it. A tiny living thing drawn to something beautiful. I am always anticipating the in-between moments that tell a deeper narrative from the day. This was one of those. It was fleeting and almost magical.

Greencrest Manor really is a destination and you could see it on the faces of guests as they entered on the long beautiful gravel entrance to the manor. This intimate European-styled manor is a magical oasis tucked into the countryside. Their ceremony was serene with parasols shielding guests from the sun, family reunions, and joy-filled conversations. A string quartet set the tone, the unity candle was lit, and their vows were celebrated.
Cocktail hour was enjoyed throughout the grounds and in the East Veranda, signature cocktails were beautifully made and guests mingled in their best garden party attire. The reception space was set and it was jaw-droppingly gorgeous. The dinnerware chosen for the reception was a beautiful, considered mix of patterns, florals, and earthy tones that felt both elegant and deeply personal. Walking into that reception space felt like walking into something that had been dreamed up with real intention. Because it had. One of the most tender details of the reception was easy to miss if you weren’t looking: the walls held framed portraits of family couples on their own wedding days. Generations of love, hung in the room where Lance and Caroline were beginning theirs.
(Note: If you’re searching for an intimate European-styled wedding venue in Michigan that will treat your day as its own, Greencrest Manor in Battle Creek is truly in a category of its own. Jenn’s care is evident in every corner.)

Caroline’s mom, Jodi, gave a toast during the reception that I won’t forget. She stood up and, with so much warmth and grace, reminded everyone in that beautiful Greencrest Manor reception space that as lovely as this wedding feast was — the candles, the florals, the elegant table Jenn had so lovingly set — it doesn’t even begin to compare to the table the Lord has prepared for us in Heaven and the wedding feast awaiting us. The room went quiet in the best possible way. That kind of toast doesn’t just celebrate a couple. It roots them in something eternal and it landed with a weight of the hope of glory that was a gift to everyone listening. Jodi, thank you for that.

Lance and Caroline ended their intimate European-styled wedding by running out of the manor, flanked with sparklers, with a guest lined path to their Aston Martin getaway car. The perfect end to a perfect beginning. Lance and Caroline, thank you for letting me celebrate with you. Your wedding day was layered with meaning, so full of the people who love you most, and so beautifully held by a venue that cared for every detail like it was their own. Days like yours remind me why I became a Michigan wedding photographer. If you’re a couple dreaming of a Michigan wedding that feels this intimate, I would be so honored to be your photographer. You can explore more of my wedding work here, and I can’t wait to hear all about your vision for your wedding day.
